Opting for Minimalism in Blog Themes
A minimalist theme more or less epitomizes imageless, colorless and basically plain design. It was once known as the “poor” man’s solution to efficient blog design. There was a time that a blog design was not only excellent in accessibility context but also covered with image rollovers or beautiful header images to be considered efficient. This view has changed since. The primary advantage of minimalist themes is that they are fast-loading. Small overall page sizes results due to the lack of images and fancy effects which means a substantial amount of time saved. The greatest obstacle to any web page is the very short attention spans of visitors. Minimalist themes allow more time to impress the visitor while being very modem-friendly. The shorter waiting time for page loading encourages users to give the page’s content more attention.
Less distraction from the site’s content is another reason why some bloggers see logic in using minimalist themes. Striking themes tend to call attention to themselves rater than what is intended to be read. This presents more problems to newer users who have yet to get accustomed to a blog’s design. The downside to minimalist themes is that the blog may come out too plain to spark anyone’s interest. Themes can work both ways. That is why most blogs play it safe by staying away from complete minimalism and choose to bring in some minimalism only in their design especially for those who cater the highly fickle audiences.
