Rules of Blogging
Blogging doesn't have any rules set in stone, in part because it's so new and in part because it's more about freedom of expression than anything else. So if there's a first rule of blogging, it's to express yourself.
From there, the more successful blogs (i.e. those with the greatest readership) tend to be those that get to the point quickly, make use of effective posting titles, and don't ramble on.
If you're sensing a theme here, you're right. Surfers have a short attention span. The more concise you are, the more likely people will read your work and check back for updates. If you waste their time, they'll simply click away.
While there is no rule that forces you to stick to a given theme, doing so will probably reap return readers. However, that theme could be as open as you and your reaction to the world around you. Obviously, such a theme has endless room for growth.
How often you update is up to you. But remember that the information age has instilled in users of media an insatiable appetite for new material. If your blog is constantly updated, readers will want to read it often.
